During my earlier training, I kept a log and made drawings to help me better understand what I needed to do for my future training sessions. In this video I use some drawing tools to do something similar.
I had described swinging my right leg and foot to he catch as a Shortcut. The movement is linear. It's sort of like rolling straight along the outside edge of my left foot and then taking a sharp left. My body is squared up so I can swing the hammer first letting my right foot turn with the hammer acceleration.
My hammer ball's orbit was too flat for me to be able to roll onto my toes. I needed to make a trade off between a long radius and a balanced power positions when I caught the hammer ball.
My Power Positions felt weak. I was reaching out too much for a long radius. I needed to straighten up and have a better base for accelerating the hammer.
I needed to improve my balance and timing of my catches. This will give me better power positions to swing the hammer as soon as my right foot touches.
With patience and timing, I can hit better "Power Positions." At first, I wasn't able to do all three positions. Adjustments should be made in the winds and entry. Don't try to force the third catch into the delivery and release.
I looked at little things that might help me improve my technique.
I do have my hips tilted down and to my left. I can allow my hips move down vertically when transitioning to my catch. Youri's hips moved up and down more and more as he turned faster and faster.
When entering the throw, I can zero out the torque on my knees by having my shins perpendicular to the circle. This gives me better balance going into my progressive power positions.
Improving my entry timing with my right foot and leg swing, is easier when I roll from heel to toe as in walking. I don't rotate on the ball of the right foot, grinding on the surface of the circle.
