GENEVA– John F. "Jack" Warner, 93, of Geneva, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2023 at Geneva General Hospital.
There will be no calling hours.
A Graveside Service with Full Military Honors will be at 1 p.m. on (Friday April 14) at Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery. The Reverend Thomas P. Mull will officiate.

Jack was born in Rome, N.Y. and lived nearly all his life in Central N.Y., with the last 32 years in Geneva. He graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor's degree and the University of Kansas with a Master's degree. Following his education Jack entered the Marines attaining the rank of 1st Lieutenant having served during the Korean War.
A celebrated high school and college athlete, Jack was Captain of both his high school and Syracuse University's teams. Jack led the Syracuse Cross Country team to win the national AAU championship.
Jack continued his love of Track and Field and Cross Country with a distinguished coaching career spanning over 6 decades. He began coaching as a Marine continuing at North Syracuse High School, University of Kansas, Colgate University, Cornell University, and Hobart William Smith. Jack produced teams and athletes of distinction including Olympians, World and National Champions. Following retiring from coaching, Jack continued to participate in the sport that he loved as a NYS Certified Track and Field Official.
His many awards and accolades included: Rome, NY Sports Hall of Fame; Syracuse Letter Winner of Distinction; Cornell University Sports Hall of Fame; Niagara District USA Track and Field Hall of Fame; US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
He is survived by: his wife, Elizabeth; his children, Jack Warner, Jr (Carol) of Lafayette, IN; David Warner of Ocala, FL; Susan Radloff of Largo, FL; Karen Tripp (Jeff) of Brevard, NC; and Joe Warner of Ithaca, N.Y.; also by stepsons Hugh, Paul, Kurt, and Lew Willig.
He is predeceased by his son, Tim Warner, brother, Dick, parents, Marie and Addison.
